- What is Rootka?
- Rootka is a free mobile app for iOS and Android that lets you create, share and run GPS courses with checkpoints. Each course is made of control points placed on a map and validated automatically while you run.
- How does checkpoint validation work?
- Each checkpoint can be validated in four ways: by GPS (you enter a defined radius around the point), by scanning a QR code, by photo, or by answering a riddle. The mode is chosen by the course creator for each checkpoint.
- Is Rootka free?
- Yes, Rootka is free to download and use on iOS and Android. Creating courses, participating and leaderboards are all included at no cost.
- Which activities are supported?
- Rootka supports running, trail running, road cycling, mountain biking, gravel, hiking, trekking and paragliding, among other outdoor activities. Each course can be tagged with one or more recommended activities.
- How do I share a course?
- Every course has a unique 6-character code. Share it so others can open the course in the app. Public courses are also visible on the discovery map of the website.
- Does Rootka work offline?
- Yes. Rootka uses background GPS and works offline: you can run a course without a connection, checkpoints are validated locally and synced as soon as the network is back.
