The 5 Rootka course types
Sequential, free order, score, star or backyard: one route, five ways to play and to rank.
On Rootka, the game mode is chosen at creation time and changes checkpoint order, scoring and ranking. Here are the five modes and when to use them.
Sequential
The default mode: checkpoints validate in order, from start to finish, ranked by best time. Ideal for a run, a trail or a marked rally.
Free order
A fixed start, then intermediate checkpoints in any order. Perfect for orienteering, a treasure hunt or a touring rally.
Score
A fixed time window, each checkpoint is worth points. Goal: maximize your score before time runs out. Ranked by best score, then by time.
Star
A central point and branches to explore, returning to the center between each. Built for star rallies from a base camp.
Backyard
A loop to repeat within the time limit, backyard-ultra style. Scheduled notifications warn before each start, even with the app closed. Most laps wins.
