Organize a checkpoint race with Rootka

From the route to live tracking on race day: the guide to setting up a trail, a hiking challenge or a treasure hunt with automatic checkpoint validation.

Rootka is more than a GPS tracker: it's a tool to turn a place into a playable challenge. Whether you run a club trail, an orienteering race or a treasure hunt with friends, here's how to go from idea to event.

1. Draw your course and drop your checkpoints

Drop your control points directly on the map. For each checkpoint, pick a validation mode suited to the terrain and to how much cheating you can tolerate:

  • GPS: automatic validation when the runner enters the defined radius.
  • QR code: scanned on site, ideal for mandatory checkpoints.
  • Photo: proof of passage by image, viewable after the race.
  • Riddle: answer a question to validate, perfect for a treasure hunt.
  • Manual: a volunteer validates live from their phone.

2. Create an event and invite your team

An event adds a time window, a registration page and access via a 6-character code. Invite your volunteers, assign them checkpoints, and build a pool you can reuse from one event to the next.

3. Follow the race live

On race day, the real-time dashboard shows active runners, progress per checkpoint, drop-outs and elapsed time. Position tracking is opt-in and privacy-friendly. After the race, export results to CSV in one click.
